Draupadī’s Grief at Seeing the Heroes in Disguise (द्रौपदी-विषादः / वेष-परिभव-वर्णनम्)

तपस्या और वेदज्ञानसे सम्पन्न सहस्रों पूर्णकाम ऋषि-महर्षि प्रतेदिन इनकी राजसभामें बैठा करते थे ।। अष्टाशीतिसहस्राणि स्नातका गृहमेधिन: । त्रिंशद्दासीक एकैको यान्‌ बिभर्ति युधिष्ठिर:,अद्वासी हजार स्नातक गृहस्थ ब्राह्मणोंका, जिनमेंसे एक-एककी सेवाके लिये तीस- तीस दासियाँ थीं, राजा युधिष्ठिर अपने यहाँ पालन करते थे

vaiśampāyana uvāca | aṣṭāśītisahasrāṇi snātakā gṛhamedhinaḥ | triṃśad dāsīka ekaiko yān bibharti yudhiṣṭhiraḥ ||

Vaiśampāyana sprach: Yudhiṣṭhira unterhielt in seinem Haushalt achtundachtzigtausend Brāhmaṇas—snātakas, Absolventen vedischer Studien, die als Hausväter lebten—und jeder von ihnen wurde von dreißig Dienerinnen bedient. Der Vers betont die dharmische Aufgabe des Königs, gelehrte und disziplinierte Lebensweisen durch großzügige, geordnete Förderung zu schützen und zu erhalten.
