Draupadī’s Lament and Indictment of Misfortune
सम्मूर्छितेव कौरव्य प्रजज्वाल च तेजसा । सा वै महानसं प्राप्प भीमसेनं शुचिस्मिता,कुरुनन्दन! द्रौपदीके दिव्य रूपसे महात्मा भीमकी वह पाकशाला शोभा-समृद्धिको प्राप्त होकर तेजसे प्रकाशित हो उठी। पवित्र मुसकानवाली द्रौपदी पाक-शालामें पहुँचकर क्रमश: [बक, साँड़ और गजराजके पास जानेवाली] जलनमें उत्पन्न हुई बकी, तीन सालकी पार्थिव गौ तथा हथिनीके समान श्रेष्ठ पुरुष भीमसेनके समीप गयीं
sammūrchiteva kauravya prajajvāla ca tejasā | sā vai mahānasaṃ prāpya bhīmasenaṃ śucismitā ||
Vaiśampāyana sprach: «O Spross der Kurus, sie wirkte wie betäubt, und doch loderte sie in innerem Glanz. Die Frau mit dem reinen Lächeln erreichte die königliche Küche und ging zu Bhīmasena.» Der Vers hebt Draupadīs gefasste Würde unter Verkleidung und Gefahr hervor: selbst in beinahe dienstbarer Lage leuchten ihre moralische Kraft und Selbstachtung, und sie sucht Bhīmas Schutz und Stärke innerhalb von Dharma und dem Gelübde der Geheimhaltung.
