Virāṭa-parva, Adhyāya 12 — Concealed Service in Matsya and Bhīma’s Arena Victory

इदं तवेष्टं यदि वै सुरोपम ब्रवीहि यत्‌ ते प्रसमीक्षितं वसु । त तेडनुरूपं हयकर्म विद्यते प्रभासि राजेव हि सम्मतो मम,देवोपम पुरुष! यदि यही कार्य तुम्हें प्रिय है, तो बताओ, इसके लिये वेतनरूपसे कितना धन लेनेका तुमने विचार किया है? यह घोड़ोंकी शिक्षाका कार्य तुम्हारे अनुरूप नहीं है। तुम तो राजाकी भाँति शोभा पा रहे हो और मुझे भी अत्यन्त प्रिय लगते हो। आज मुझे तुम्हारा जो यहाँ दर्शन हुआ है, यह राजा युधिष्ठिरके ही दर्शनके समान मुझे अत्यन्त प्रिय है। अहो! सर्वथा प्रशंसाके योग्य पाण्डुनन्दन महाराज युधिष्छिर सेवकोंके बिना वनमें कैसे रहते होंगे और कैसे उनका मन वहाँ लगता होगा?

idaṃ taveṣṭaṃ yadi vai suropama brūhi yat te prasmīkṣitaṃ vasu | tat te 'nurūpaṃ hayakarma vidyate prabhāsi rājeva hi sammato mama | devopama puruṣa |

Virāṭa sprach: „O Gottgleicher, wenn dies wahrhaft dein Wunsch ist, so sage mir, welchen Lohn du als Entgelt erwogen hast. Doch diese Arbeit des Pferdedressierens scheint nicht zu dir zu passen. Du strahlst wie ein König und bist von mir hoch geachtet. Dich hier zu sehen erfreut mich so sehr wie der Anblick König Yudhiṣṭhiras selbst. Ach — wie kann jener lobenswerte Sohn Pāṇḍus, König Yudhiṣṭhira, ohne Gefolge im Wald leben, und wie soll sein Geist dort Zufriedenheit finden?“
