Educational Q&A

The verse underscores that dharmic life—especially in exile—depends on both sanctity (puṇya-hṛda, sacred places that purify and orient the mind) and sustenance (mountains rich in roots and fruits). Holiness and practical support are presented together as complementary aids to righteous living.

Dhaumya is describing notable locations in the forest region: a famed sacred lake, the celebrated Mount Maināka, and Mount Asita, which provides plentiful edible roots and fruits—guiding the listeners through a spiritually significant and livable landscape.
