Lokapāla-samāgamaḥ—Arjuna Receives Astras from the World-Guardians

Book 3, Chapter 42

तस्मिन्‌ रथे स्थितं सूतं तप्तहेमविभूषितम्‌ । दृष्टवा पार्थों महाबाहुर्देवमेवान्वतर्कयत्‌,महाबाहु कुन्तीकुमारने उस रथपर बैठे हुए सारथिकी ओर देखा, जो तपाये हुए सुवर्णके आभूषणोंसे विभूषित था। उसे देखकर उन्होंने कोई देवता ही समझा

tasmin rathe sthitaṁ sūtaṁ tapta-hemavibhūṣitam | dṛṣṭvā pārtho mahābāhur devam evānv atarkayat ||

Als der mächtigarmige Pārtha (Arjuna) den Wagenlenker auf jenem Wagen erblickte, geschmückt mit Zierrat aus blank poliertem Gold, hielt er ihn für keinen Geringeren als einen Gott. Die Szene zeigt, wie göttlicher Glanz und edle Haltung Ehrfurcht wecken, und deutet zugleich ein wiederkehrendes Motiv des Epos an: Das Göttliche kann in menschlichen Rollen erscheinen, um die Ereignisse dem dharma gemäß zu lenken.
