नाब्राह्म॒णं भूमिरियं सभूति- वर्ण द्वितीयं भजते चिराय । समुद्रनेमिर्नमते तु तस्मै य॑ ब्राह्मण: शास्ति नयैविनीतम्,“जिसे ब्राह्मणका सहयोग नहीं प्राप्त है, ऐसे क्षत्रियके पास यह ऐश्वर्यपूर्ण भूमि दीर्घ कालतक नहीं रहती। जिस नीतिज्ञ राजाको श्रेष्ठ ब्राह्मणका उपदेश प्राप्त है, उसके सामने समुद्रपर्यन्त पृथिवी नतमस्तक होती है
na brāhmaṇaṃ bhūmir iyaṃ sa-bhūti-varṇa-dvitīyaṃ bhajate cirāya | samudranemir namate tu tasmai yaḥ brāhmaṇaḥ śāsti nayaiḥ vinītam ||
Vaiśampāyana sprach: Diese gedeihende Erde bleibt nicht lange bei einem Kṣatriya, dem die Stütze eines Brāhmaṇa fehlt. Doch vor dem in nīti kundigen König, den die Unterweisung eines edlen Brāhmaṇa zügelt und formt, beugt sich die ganze Erde—vom Ozean umgürtet—in Unterwerfung.
वैशम्पायन उवाच
A ruler’s power and the stability of his kingdom depend on being guided and disciplined by learned, ethical counsel (brāhmaṇa-nīti). Without such guidance, sovereignty and prosperity do not endure; with it, authority becomes legitimate and widely acknowledged.
Vaiśaṃpāyana states a general principle of rājadharma: the earth does not remain long with a kṣatriya lacking brāhmaṇic support, whereas a king trained in policy and conduct by a worthy brāhmaṇa gains broad submission—symbolized by the ocean-bounded earth bowing to him.
