Duryodhana’s Śaraṇāgati and the Pāṇḍavas’ Resolve
Gandharva Encounter
तस्य दक्षिणतो देवा बहवद्चित्रयोधिन:
tasya dakṣiṇato devā bahavo 'd(c)itrayodhinaḥ
Mārkaṇḍeya sprach: „Zu seiner Rechten standen viele Götter, Krieger von wunderbarer und vielfältiger Kraft.“
मार्कण्डेय उवाच
The verse implies that dharmic power is not merely human: when a cause or person is aligned with cosmic order, divine forces are depicted as standing in support. The ‘right side’ imagery reinforces auspiciousness and rightful alignment.
Mārkaṇḍeya describes a scene of martial or cosmic arrangement in which many gods, characterized as extraordinary warriors, are positioned to the right of a central figure, indicating a formation of support and protection.
