चित्रसेनगन्धर्वैः कौरवसंनिपातः

अनुप्रविश्य रुद्रेण वह्लिं जातो हायं शिशु: । तत्र जातस्तत:ः स्कन्दो रुद्रसूनुस्ततो5भवत्,'रुद्रने अग्निमें प्रवेश करके इस शिशुको जन्म दिया है। रुद्रस्वरूप अग्निसे उत्पन्न होनेके कारण स्कन्द रुद्रके ही पुत्र कहलाये”
anupraviśya rudreṇa vahliṁ jāto hāyaṁ śiśuḥ | tatra jātastataḥ skando rudrasūnustato 'bhavat ||
Mārkaṇḍeya sprach: „Durch Rudras Macht trat er in Agni (das Feuer) ein, und so wurde dieses Kind geboren. Dort aus dem Feuer geboren, das selbst Rudras Wesen trug, wurde er fortan Skanda genannt — und galt somit als Rudras eigener Sohn.“
