स्रोतसासकृदाक्षिप्तं द्वियमाणं बलीयसा । इस प्रकार यह संसार असहाय तथा मोह, शोकमें डूबा हुआ है। कर्मोके अत्यन्त प्रबल प्रवाहमें पड़कर बार-बार उसकी आधि-व्याधिरूपी तरंगोंके थपेड़े सहता और विवश होकर इधर-से-उधर बहता रहता है

srotasā sakṛd ākṣiptaṃ dvīyamāṇaṃ balīyasā |

Die Welt gleicht etwas, das in eine Flussströmung geraten ist: Einmal vom Strom ergriffen, wird es von einer stärkeren Macht fortgerissen und hin- und hergeworfen. So bleibt sie, hilflos und verblendet, im Kummer versunken, immer wieder von den Wogen der Bedrängnis und Krankheit getroffen; und—vom gewaltigen Lauf des Karma überwältigt—treibt sie wider Willen von Ort zu Ort.
