The Vāmadeva Horses Episode and the Ethics of Promise
The verse presents a metaphysical view: the Deity, as the Universal Self, abides through all time and, by a power of delusion, causes beings to fall into ignorance—implying that liberation requires seeing beyond this moha to the underlying Self.
In a dialogue with a great sage, the Deity explains its own cosmic mode of being—described as ‘sleep’—during which all creatures are enveloped in delusion, while the Deity remains present and enduring across time.
