Educational Q&A

Spiritual liberation is presented as the fruit of disciplined austerity (tapas), ethical/meritorious action (śubha-karma), and yogic perfection (yoga-siddhi). When ignorance (tamas) and delusion (moha) are removed, the great-souled attain a non-returning state beyond worldly rebirth.

Vaiśampāyana, as narrator, describes the destiny of spiritually accomplished persons: those purified by austerity and auspicious deeds and perfected in yoga become free of ignorance and delusion and reach the highest goal, no longer returning to ordinary worldly life.
