Vaiśaṃpāyana–Janamejaya Narrative
मुष्टिभिश्व महाघोरैरन्योन्यमभिजचध्नतु: । तत: कटकटाशब्दो बभूव सुमहात्मनो:,अपने अत्यन्त भयानक मुक्कोंद्वारा वे परस्पर चोट करने लगे। तब उन दोनों महाकाय वीरोंमें जोर-जोरसे कटकटानेकी आवाज होने लगी
muṣṭibhiś ca mahāghorair anyonyam abhijaghnatuḥ | tataḥ kaṭakaṭāśabdo babhūva sumahātmanoḥ ||
Vaiśaṃpāyana sprach: Mit überaus schrecklichen Fäusten schlugen sie immer wieder aufeinander ein. Da erhob sich von diesen beiden großleibigen, hochgesinnten Helden ein lautes Klacken—wie das Knirschen harter Schläge—ein Zeichen für die Wildheit und die unnachlassende Wucht ihres Kampfes.
वैशम्पायन उवाच
The verse highlights the relentless, embodied reality of violent conflict: when dharma collapses into brute contest, even noble warriors become instruments of force. It implicitly cautions that heroism without restraint can devolve into sheer ferocity, making the sound of impact itself a marker of escalating harm.
Two formidable warriors are engaged in close combat, striking each other with terrifying fists. The blows are so heavy and continuous that a loud clacking/grinding sound arises from their bodies and impacts, emphasizing the intensity of the duel.
