Nachts kamen sie, stets von Zorn entbrannt, und verschlangen die Weisen — jene, die in Einsiedeleien und an geheiligten Stätten weilten.
लोगश उवाच
The verse highlights adharma through the targeting of munis and the violation of āśramas and sacred sanctuaries. It implies that society’s moral order depends on protecting those devoted to tapas and safeguarding holy spaces from violence and desecration.
A hostile group (implied from context) repeatedly comes at night in anger and devours sages residing in hermitages and holy places, creating terror and disrupting ascetic life and sacred institutions.
