Udyoga Parva, Adhyāya 72 — Bhīmasena’s counsel on conciliation and Duryodhana’s disposition
कौरवाणां प्रवृत्ति च गत्वा युद्धाधिकारिकाम् । निशम्य विनिवर्तिष्ये जयाय तव भारत,भारत! मैं जाकर कौरवोंकी युद्धविषयक तैयारीकी बातें जान-सुनकर आपकी विजयके लिये पुनः यहाँ लौट आऊँगा
kauravāṇāṃ pravṛttiṃ ca gatvā yuddhādhikārikām | niśamya vinivartiṣye jayāya tava bhārata ||
O Bhārata! Ich werde hingehen und—durch eigene Beobachtung und durch Berichte—die Kriegsvorbereitungen und Absichten der Kauravas erkunden; und nachdem ich sie vernommen und verstanden habe, werde ich um deines Sieges willen wieder hierher zurückkehren.
युधिछिर उवाच
Even when war looms, a ruler should act with deliberation: verify the opponent’s intentions and preparations, gather reliable intelligence, and then decide and act for the protection and rightful success of one’s side—without rashness.
Yudhiṣṭhira declares his intention to go to the Kauravas, learn the state of their war preparations and resolve, and then return to report—so that the addressed Bhārata may secure victory with informed planning.
