Sainyasaṅgraha and Bhāga-Vyavasthā (Forces Assembled and Rival Allocations) |
bharatanandana! ye bhūpālā mama priyaṁ kartum icchanti, te sarve tān pāṇḍavān agre gantuṁ tathā rotsyianti yathā phandena hariṇa-śiśūn rotsyante. mahatā rathavaṁśena śarajālaiś ca māmakaiḥ abhidrūtā bhaviṣyanti pañcālāḥ pāṇḍavaiḥ saha.
O Nachkomme Bharatas!
The verse highlights how attachment to power and the desire for dominance can eclipse dharma: Duryodhana measures success by military force and political loyalty, not by justice, restraint, or reconciliation.
In the Udyoga Parva’s pre-war negotiations and mobilization, Duryodhana boasts that allied kings will stop the Pāṇḍavas’ advance and that his chariot forces and arrow volleys will rout the Pāṇḍavas and their Pāñcāla allies.
