अध्याय ३९: विदुरेण धृतराष्ट्राय नीत्युपदेशः
Timely Counsel, Association, and Kin-Duty
धृतराष्ट उवाच एवमेतद् यथा त्वं मामनुशाससि नित्यदा । ममापि च मति: सौम्य भवत्येवं यथा55तथ माम्
dhṛtarāṣṭra uvāca evam etad yathā tvaṁ mām anuśāsasi nityadā | mamāpi ca matiḥ saumya bhavaty evaṁ yathā tathā mām ||
Dhṛtarāṣṭra sprach: „So ist es in der Tat, wie du mich immer wieder belehrst. Und auch mein eigenes Verständnis, o Sanftmütiger, richtet sich danach—sodass ich die Dinge annehme, wie sie in Wahrheit sind.“
धृतराष्ट उवाच
The verse highlights receptivity to wise counsel: a ruler’s judgment should be shaped by continual ethical instruction, aligning one’s mind with what is right and true rather than with impulse or partiality.
Dhṛtarāṣṭra responds to ongoing guidance from a trusted adviser, acknowledging that the adviser’s repeated instruction influences his own thinking and disposition, at least in the moment, toward accepting the proper course.
