उद्योगपर्व — अध्याय 33: धृतराष्ट्र-विदुर संवादः (विदुरनीतिः)
वनस्पतेरपक्वानि फलानि प्रचिनोति यः । स नाप्रोति रसं तेभ्यो बीजं चास्य विनश्यति,जो पेड़से कच्चे फलोंको तोड़ता है, वह उन फलोंसे रस तो पाता नहीं, परंतु उस वृक्षके बीजका नाश हो जाता है
vanaspater apakvāni phalāni pracinoti yaḥ | sa nāpnoti rasaṁ tebhyo bījaṁ cāsya vinaśyati ||
Vidura sprach: „Wer die unreifen Früchte eines Baumes pflückt, gewinnt daraus keinen wahren Saft; vielmehr schädigt er die Quelle selbst — der Same wird verdorben. Ebenso bringt voreiliges, gieriges Handeln keinen wirklichen Nutzen und zerstört künftigen Wohlstand.“
