हिरण्यवर्मेति नूपो योडसौ दाशार्णक: स्मृत: । सच प्रादान्महीपाल: कन्यां तस्मै शिखण्डिने,दशार्णदेशके राजाका नाम हिरण्यवर्मा था। भूपाल हिरण्यवर्माने शिखण्डीको अपनी कन्या दे दी
Hiraṇyavarmeti nṛpo yo ’sau Dāśārṇakaḥ smṛtaḥ | sa ca prādān mahīpālaḥ kanyāṁ tasmai Śikhaṇḍine ||
Drupada sprach: „Es gab in Daśārṇa einen König, der unter dem Namen Hiraṇyavarman in Erinnerung ist. Dieser Herrscher gab seine Tochter Śikhaṇḍin zur Ehe.“
दुपद उवाच
The verse highlights how royal actions—especially marriage alliances—carry dharmic weight: decisions made for political or social reasons can generate long-term moral and relational consequences when based on mistaken identity or concealment.
Drupada recounts that Hiraṇyavarman, the king of Daśārṇa, gave his daughter to Śikhaṇḍin in marriage, establishing a key link in Śikhaṇḍin’s backstory that later becomes a source of tension and conflict.
