शल्य बोले--राजन्! तुम जैसा कह रहे हो, ऐसा ही करूँगा और भी (तुम्हारे हितके लिये) जो कुछ मुझसे हो सकेगा, वह सब तुम्हारे लिये करूँगा ।। वैशम्पायन उवाच ततस्त्वामन्त्रय कौन्तेयाउ्छल्यो मद्राधिपस्तदा । जगाम सबल: श्रीमान् दुर्योधनमरिंदम

śalya uvāca—rājan! tvam yathā vadasi tathā kariṣyāmi; api ca (tava hitāya) yat kiñcin mayā śakyaṃ bhaviṣyati tat sarvaṃ tava kariṣyāmi ||

tatas tvām āmantrya kaunteyaṃ śalyo madrādhipas tadā |
jagāma sabalaḥ śrīmān duryodhanam arindama ||
Śalya sprach: „O König, ich werde genau so handeln, wie du es sagst; und alles Weitere, was ich zu deinem Wohl zu leisten vermag, das werde ich ganz für dich tun.“ Vaiśampāyana sprach: Darauf nahm Śalya, der Herr von Madra, Abschied von Kuntīs Sohn und zog aus—glanzvoll und von seinen Truppen begleitet—zu Duryodhana, dem Bezwinger der Feinde.
वैशम्पायन उवाच
A promise of assistance is ethically framed as ‘for your welfare,’ yet the narrative warns that such pledges can be shaped by political pressures and shifting loyalties; intention (hita) and consequence (support in war) may diverge, making discernment in alliances a dharmic necessity.
Śalya assures the king that he will act as instructed and do whatever he can for his benefit. Then, after formally taking leave of Yudhiṣṭhira (Kaunteya), Śalya departs with his forces and goes to Duryodhana, signaling his movement toward the Kaurava side in the unfolding war preparations.
