बालैरपि भवन्तस्तै: सर्व एव विशेषिता: । कुरुनन्दन! इनके आयुधों
bālair api bhavantas taiḥ sarva eva viśeṣitāḥ | kurunandana! eṣāṃ āyudhānāṃ gadānāṃ ca bāṇānāṃ cāghātaṃ kaścid api na soḍhuṃ śaknoti | ataḥ paraṃ na kaścid eṣāṃ dhanuṣi pratyāñcāṃ samāropayituṃ śaknoti, na yuddhe eṣāṃ gurvīṃ gadāṃ samuddhartum, na ca eṣāṃ bāṇān prayoktum | te vegena calane, lakṣyabhede, khāne-pāne tathā dhūli-krīḍāsu ca bālye 'pi tvāṃ parājitavantaḥ |
Bhīṣma sprach: „Schon als Knaben habt ihr alle neben ihnen zurückgestanden, o Freude der Kurus. Niemand vermag den Schlag ihrer Waffen zu ertragen — ihrer Keulen und ihrer Pfeile. Zudem kann keiner ihre Bögen überhaupt bespannen, keiner ihre schweren Keulen im Kampf heben, und keiner ihre Pfeile recht zu führen. An Schnelligkeit, am Treffen des Ziels, am Essen und Trinken und selbst in kindlichen Staubspielen haben sie euch bereits in eurer eigenen Knabenzeit besiegt.“
