एष नैव रथ: कर्णो न चाप्यतिरथो रणे | वियुक्त: कवचेनैष सहजेन विचेतन:
eṣa naiva rathaḥ karṇo na cāpy atiratho raṇe | viyuktaḥ kavacenaiṣa sahajena vicetanaḥ ||
Bhishma sprach: „Dieser Karna ist in Wahrheit nicht einmal mehr ein rechter Wagenkämpfer, geschweige denn ein ‘überragender Held’ in der Schlacht. Der angeborenen Rüstung beraubt, ist er wie betäubt. Nach meinem Urteil hat er, der der Mittel beraubt ist, die den Sieg sichern, auf die Stufe eines Halbkriegers herabgesunken; und wenn er Arjuna begegnet, wird er nicht mit dem Leben davonkommen.“
