“कौरवसभामें जो घटना घटित हुई है, उसे आप लोगोंने प्रत्यक्ष देखा है। मूर्ख दुर्योधन किस प्रकार अशिष्टकी भाँति आज रोषपूर्वक सभासे उठ गया था ।। वदत्यनीशमात्मानं धृतराष्ट्रो महीपति: । आपृच्छे भवत: सर्वान्‌ गमिष्यामि युधिष्ठिरम्‌,“महाराज धृतराष्ट्र भी अपने-आपको असमर्थ बता रहे हैं। अत: अब मैं आप सब लोगोंसे आज्ञा चाहता हूँ। मैं युधिष्ठिरके पास जाऊँगा”

vaiśampāyana uvāca |

kauravasabhāyāṃ yā ghaṭanā ghaṭitā sā yuṣmābhiḥ pratyakṣaṃ dṛṣṭā | mūrkho duryodhanaḥ kathaṃ yathā aśiṣṭavat adya roṣapūrvakaṃ sabhāto utthitaḥ ||

vadaty anīśam ātmānaṃ dhṛtarāṣṭro mahīpatiḥ |

āpr̥cche bhavataḥ sarvān gamiṣyāmi yudhiṣṭhiram ||

Vaiśampāyana sprach: „Ihr alle habt mit eigenen Augen gesehen, was in der Versammlung der Kauravas geschah: wie der törichte Duryodhana sich ungebührlich benahm, heute zornig aufsprang und den Saal verließ. Nun erklärt König Dhṛtarāṣṭra seine Ohnmacht und spricht: ‚Ich nehme von euch allen Abschied; mit eurer Erlaubnis werde ich zu Yudhiṣṭhira gehen.‘“
