Udyoga-parva Adhyāya 123 — Bhīṣma–Droṇa–Vidura Upadeśa to Duryodhana
Keśava-vākya aftermath
दुर्योधन निबोधेदं मद्वाक्यं कुरुसत्तम
duryodhana nibodhedaṃ madvākyaṃ kurusattama
Vaiśampāyana sprach: „O Duryodhana, Bester der Kurus, begreife dies — höre meine Worte aufmerksam an.“
वैशम्पायन उवाच
The verse frames an ethical moment of instruction: Duryodhana is urged to ‘understand’ and ‘heed’ counsel. It highlights the Mahābhārata’s recurring emphasis that right action (dharma) begins with willingness to listen to wise admonition, especially when conflict is imminent.
Vaiśampāyana, as narrator, introduces a direct address to Duryodhana, signaling that an important statement or warning is about to be delivered. The line functions as a transition into counsel meant to influence Duryodhana’s choices in the tense pre-war negotiations of the Udyoga Parva.
