उपायं धर्ममेवाहुस्त्रिवर्गस्य विशाम्पते । लिप्समानो हि तेनाशु कक्षेडग्निरिव वर्धते,'प्रजानाथ! विद्वान् पुरुष धर्मको ही त्रिवर्गकी प्राप्तिका एकमात्र उपाय बताते हैं। अतः जो धर्मके द्वारा अर्थ और कामको पाना चाहता है, वह शीघ्र ही उसी प्रकार उन्नतिकी दिशामें आगे बढ़ जाता है, जैसे सूखे तिनकोंमें लगी हुई आग बढ़ जाती है

Vaiśampāyana sprach: „O Herr des Volkes, die Weisen erklären, dass allein Dharma das wahre Mittel ist, die drei Lebensziele zu erlangen. Wer Reichtum und Lust durch Dharma erstrebt, schreitet rasch voran und wächst—wie ein Feuer, das sich durch dürres Gras frisst.“
