कथं तदल्पकालेन क्षीणं येनास्मि पातितः । भगवन्‌ वेत्थ लोकांश्व शाश्वतान्‌ मम निर्मितान्‌ | कथं नु मम तत्‌ सर्व विप्रणष्टं महाद्युते,मैंने कई हजार वर्षोतक अनेकानेक यज्ञों और दानोंके द्वारा जिस महान्‌ पुण्यफलका उपार्जन किया था और जिसे प्रजापालनरूपी धर्मके द्वारा उत्तरोत्तर बढ़ाया था, वह सब थोड़े ही समयमें नष्ट कैसे हो गया? जिससे मैं यहाँसे नीचे गिरा दिया गया। भगवन! महाद्युते! मुझे मेरे सत्कर्मोद्वारा जो सनातन लोक प्राप्त हुए थे, उन्हें आप जानते हैं। मेरा वह सारा पुण्य सहसा नष्ट कैसे हो गया?

kathaṁ tad alpakaalena kṣīṇaṁ yenāsmi pātitaḥ | bhagavan vettha lokāṁś ca śāśvatān mama nirmitān || kathaṁ nu mama tat sarvaṁ vipraṇaṣṭaṁ mahādyute |

Nārada sprach: „Wie konnte mein Verdienst in so kurzer Zeit erschöpft werden, sodass ich herabgestürzt bin? O Gesegneter, du kennst die ewigen Welten, die ich durch meine eigenen Taten erlangt hatte. O du von großem Glanz, wie ist all das—mein angesammeltes Verdienst—plötzlich zugrunde gegangen?“
