Adharmic Victory as Unstable; Rules of Restraint, Mediation, and Conciliation (अधर्मविजय-अध्रुवत्व तथा क्षमा-नयः)

नतु वध्यधन तिषछेत्‌ पिबेयुर्राह्मिणा: पय: । युज्जीरन्नप्यनडुह: क्षन्तव्यं वा तदा भवेत्‌

na tu vadhya-dhanaṁ tiṣṭhet pibeyur brāhmaṇāḥ payaḥ | yujjīrann apy anaḍuhaḥ kṣantavyaṁ vā tadā bhavet ||

Bhishma sprach: „Man soll Reichtum, der durch strafwürdiges Unrecht erbeutet wurde, nicht bei sich behalten. Ist eine Kuh mit Gewalt genommen worden, soll man ihre Milch nicht selbst trinken; vielmehr sollen Brahmanen sie trinken. Gibt es Ochsen, so sollen sie nur zum Gebrauch der Brahmanen eingespannt werden (für Wagen und dergleichen). Und wenn der rechtmäßige Eigentümer jener geraubten Güter oder jenes Reichtums kommt und um Vergebung bittet, dann soll man ihm vergeben und ihm sein Eigentum zurückgeben.“
