Treasury Security, Protection of Informants, and the Kalakavṛkṣīya Exemplum (Śānti Parva 83)

कच्चिज्जितेन्द्रियो राजा कच्चिदस्यान्तरा जिता:

kaccij jitendriyo rājā kaccid asyāntarā jitāḥ

Bhishma sprach: „Ist der König dieses Landes selbstbeherrscht, hat er seine Sinne bezwungen? Und sind jene, die im Innern seines Reiches weilen—sein enger Kreis von Dienern und Beamten—tatsächlich durch Zucht und Treue gebändigt?“ Mit diesen Fragen prüft Bhishma die ethischen Grundlagen des Königtums: die Herrschaft des Herrschers über Begierde und Zorn und die Lauterkeit der Dienenden; ohne dies können weder die Zuneigung zwischen König und Volk noch die Festigkeit der Regierung bestehen.
