Purohita-Niyoga and the Brahma–Kṣatra Concord
Aila–Kaśyapa Saṃvāda
A king’s legitimacy and righteous rule are grounded in dharma upheld through proper ritual order: first appoint a qualified purohita (Brahmin chaplain), then undergo consecration. The verse frames the Brāhmaṇa as preeminent in matters of dharma, emphasizing that political authority should be guided by sacred law and ethical counsel.
Kaśyapa is instructing on correct royal procedure and the dharmic hierarchy relevant to governance. He states that the king should first choose his priestly adviser and officiant, and only then have his own abhiṣeka performed, presenting this sequence as the proper establishment of dharma.
