Aila–Kaśyapa Saṃvāda

कश्यप उवाच यथैकगेहे जातवेदा: प्रदीप्त: कृत्स्नं ग्रामं दहते चत्वरं वा । विमोहनं कुरुते देव एष ततः सर्व स्पृश्यते पुण्यपापै:,कश्यपने कहा--जैसे एक घरमें लगी हुई आग प्रज्वलित हो आँगन तथा सारे गाँवको जला देती है, उसी प्रकार ये रुद्रदेव किसी एक प्राणीके भीतर विशेषरूपसे प्रकट हो दूसरोंके मनमें भी मोह उत्पन्न करते हैं; फिर सारे जगतका पुण्य और पापसे सम्बन्ध हो जाता है

kaśyapa uvāca | yathaikagehe jātavedāḥ pradīptaḥ kṛtsnaṃ grāmaṃ dahate catvaraṃ vā | vimohanaṃ kurute deva eṣa tataḥ sarvaṃ spṛśyate puṇyapāpaiḥ ||

Kashyapa sprach: „Wie ein loderndes Feuer, das in einem einzigen Haus entzündet wird, ein ganzes Dorf oder gar den öffentlichen Platz in Brand setzen kann, so wirkt auch diese Gottheit (Rudra): Wenn sie in einem Wesen mit besonderer Kraft hervortritt, wirft sie auch Verblendung in die Herzen der anderen. Danach wird die ganze Welt verstrickt—berührt und betroffen—von Verdienst und Sünde.“

Delusion can spread from a single locus—like fire from one house—so that many become implicated in moral consequences; once minds are clouded, the world becomes enmeshed in puṇya and pāpa through actions born of that moha.

Kashyapa uses a vivid fire analogy to explain how a divine force identified with Rudra, arising powerfully in one being, can bewilder others too; this shared bewilderment leads to widespread moral entanglement and the accrual of merit and sin.
