न चैतन्नैष्ठिकं कर्म त्रयाणां भूरिदक्षिण । चतुर्णा राजशार्दूल प्राहुराश्रमवासिनाम्,पर्याप्त दक्षिणा देनेवाले राजसिंह! यह भैक्ष्यचर्या क्षत्रिय आदि तीन वर्णोके लिये नित्य या अनिवार्य कर्म नहीं है। चारों आश्रमवासियोंका कर्म उनके लिये ऐच्छिक ही बताया गया है
Translation
Bhīṣma sprach: „O Löwe unter den Königen, du, der reichlich dakṣiṇā spendet, diese Lebensweise des Almosengangs ist keine ständige oder zwingende Pflicht für die drei Varṇas—auch nicht für die Kṣatriyas. Und für die Bewohner aller vier Āśramas heißt es, dass solche Pflichten für sie wahlweise sind, je nach Eignung und Neigung.“
