तदनन्तर देवताओंने प्रजापति भगवान्‌ विष्णुके पास जाकर कहा--'भगवन्‌! मनुष्योंमें जो एक पुरुष सबसे श्रेष्ठ पद प्राप्त करनेका अधिकारी हो, उसका नाम बताइये” ।। ततः संचिन्त्य भगवान्‌ देवो नारायण: प्रभु: । तैजसं वै विरजसं सो5सृजन्मानसं सुतम्‌,तब प्रभावशाली भगवान्‌ नारायणदेवने भलीभाँति सोच-विचारकर अपने तेजसे एक मानस पुत्रकी सृष्टि की, जो विरजाके नामसे विख्यात हुआ

tadanantaraṁ devatābhir prajāpatiṁ bhagavantaṁ viṣṇuṁ samītyoktam— “bhagavan! manuṣyeṣu yaḥ pumān sarvaśreṣṭhaṁ padaṁ prāptum adhikārī, tasya nāma brūhi.” tataḥ sañcintya bhagavān devo nārāyaṇaḥ prabhuḥ | taijasaṁ vai virajasaṁ so ’sṛjan mānasaṁ sutam |

Daraufhin traten die Götter zu Prajāpati, dem seligen Viṣṇu, und sprachen: «O Herr, nenne uns den Namen jenes Mannes unter den Menschen, der berechtigt ist, den höchsten Rang zu erlangen.» Da sann der Herr, der göttliche Nārāyaṇa, nach und erschuf aus seinem eigenen Glanz einen geistgeborenen Sohn—rein und makellos—der unter dem Namen Virajā berühmt wurde.
