Paraśurāma’s origins and the depletion/restoration of kṣatriya lineages
तस्या: प्रीत: स शौचेन भार्गव: कुरुनन्दन । पुत्रार्थ भ्रपयामास चर गाधेस्तथैव च
tasyāḥ prītaḥ sa śaucena bhārgavaḥ kurunandana | putrārthaṃ prārthayāmāsa caraṃ gādhes tathaiva ca ||
O Wonne der Kurus, der Bhārgava (Weise) war von ihrer Reinheit angetan. In der Hoffnung auf einen Sohn sprach er daraufhin Gebete—ebenso auch zum Wohle der Linie Gādhis—und gründete die erbetene Gabe auf die sittliche Kraft von Sauberkeit, Selbstzucht und rechtem Wandel.
वायुदेव उवाच
The verse highlights śauca (purity) as an ethical force that wins the goodwill of the righteous and becomes a legitimate basis for blessings—especially concerning family continuity—showing that inner discipline and cleanliness support dharmic outcomes.
Vāyudeva narrates that the Bhārgava sage, pleased by a woman’s purity, prays/entreats for the granting of a son and similarly seeks welfare connected with Gādhi’s line, indicating the conferral of a boon grounded in her virtuous conduct.
