इन्द्रके पूछनेपर द्विजश्रेष्ठ नारदने उन्हें जैसे और जिस ढंगसे वह कथा कही थी, वैसे ही मैं भी कहूँगा। तुम भी मेरी कही हुई उस कथाको ध्यान देकर सुनो ।। इति श्रीमहाभारते शान्तिपर्वणि मोक्षधर्मपर्वणि उज्छवृत्त्युपाख्याने द्विपज्चाशदधिकत्रिशततमो<ध्याय:

indra-ke pṛcchane para dvijaśreṣṭha-nāradena tebhyaḥ yathā ca yena ḍhaṅgena sā kathā kathitā āsīt, tathā eva aham api vakṣyāmi | tvam api mayā uktāṃ tāṃ kathāṃ dhyānaṃ dattvā śṛṇu || iti śrīmahābhārate śāntiparvaṇi mokṣadharmaparvaṇi ucchavṛttyupākhyāne dvipañcāśad-adhika-triśatatamo 'dhyāyaḥ ||

Bhishma sprach: „Als Indra fragte, erzählte Narada — der beste der Brahmanen — jene Begebenheit genau so, wie sie sich zugetragen hatte, und in derselben Weise, wie sie überliefert wurde. Ebenso werde auch ich sie berichten. Und du, mit wachem Geist, höre die Geschichte, die ich vortrage, aufmerksam an.“
