Atithi-prāpti and the Brāhmaṇa’s Deliberation on Triadic Dharma (अतिथिप्राप्तिः धर्मत्रयविचारश्च)

Educational Q&A

The verse teaches reciprocity in dharma: humans sustain the divine order through properly performed yajña, and the divine powers, thus strengthened, sustain the higher principle and the world in return. Ethical life is presented as mutual support between human action and cosmic maintenance.

Vaiśampāyana reports an instruction that frames sacrifice and worship as a cycle of nourishment: people perform complete sacrifices to honor and strengthen the divine recipients, and those recipients then ‘nourish’ the sustaining principle (and thereby the world), establishing a balanced order.
