भीष्म उवाच
The verse underscores the dharmic importance of faithfully preserving and transmitting Vedic knowledge through recognized lineages; accurate remembrance and enumeration of teachers is treated as a mark of scriptural authority and ethical responsibility.
Bhīṣma is listing specific sages/teachers to complete a set of sixteen, concluding an enumeration that situates a teaching within established Vedic traditions and their transmitters.
