Educational Q&A

Attaining the divine (here, Mahadeva) is portrayed as difficult for the undisciplined; it requires saṅkalpa (firm resolve), yoga (inner discipline), and uttama tapas (sustained, elevated austerity). Ethical emphasis falls on self-mastery as the prerequisite for higher spiritual access and worthy boons.

Bhishma narrates that Vyasa, engaged in intense austerities and supported by yogic practice and resolve, approaches Mahadeva (the Lord of the gods) to request a boon—highlighting Vyasa’s spiritual qualification and the rarity of such access for those lacking self-control.
