नारद–शुक संवादः

Impermanence, Svabhāva, and Śuka’s Resolve for Yoga

तथैव वेद्यमव्यक्तमवेद्य: पुरुषस्तथा । अज्ञावुभौी ध्रुवौ चैव अक्षयौ चाप्युभावपि,उसी प्रकार अव्यक्त प्रकृति वेद्य (जाननेमें आनेवाली) है और पुरुष अवेद्य (जाननेमें न आनेवाला)। अध्यात्मतत्त्वका निश्चयात्मक ज्ञान रखनेवाले विद्वान्‌ कहते हैं कि प्रकृति और पुरुष दोनों ही अज्ञ हैं, दोनों ही निश्चल हैं और दोनों ही अक्षय, अजन्मा तथा नित्य हैं

tathaiva vedyam avyaktam avedyaḥ puruṣas tathā | ajñāv ubhau dhruvau caiva akṣayau cāpy ubhāv api ||

Yājñavalkya sprach: „Ebenso ist die Unmanifestierte Natur (Prakṛti) ein Gegenstand, der erkannt werden kann, während die Person (Puruṣa) kein Gegenstand des Erkennens ist. Doch jene, die eine entscheidende Gewissheit über die Wahrheit des Selbst besitzen, erklären, dass im letzten Sinn sowohl Prakṛti als auch Puruṣa ‚unerkennbar‘ sind; beide sind unbewegt und standhaft, und beide sind unvergänglich — ungeboren und ewig.“

The verse distinguishes Prakṛti (the unmanifest source of change) and Puruṣa (pure consciousness). Prakṛti can be approached as an object of analysis, while Puruṣa is not an object among objects. Yet, from the highest standpoint, both are said to be beyond ordinary cognition—steady and imperishable—pointing the seeker toward non-objectifying, contemplative insight rather than mere conceptual knowledge.
