Educational Q&A

Bhishma introduces the ‘highest truth’ (parama-tattva) and the ‘supreme discernment’ (paramā buddhi) associated with Kapila’s Sāṅkhya tradition, signaling a shift toward philosophical clarification of reality as a basis for right living and liberation-oriented ethics.

Within the Shanti Parva’s instruction to the king, Bhishma continues his discourse and announces that he will now present a refined doctrinal viewpoint—specifically the elevated understanding attributed to the great sages aligned with Kapila—preparing the listener for a systematic philosophical exposition.
