परमा सा गति: पार्थ निर्दधन्द्धानां महात्मनाम्‌ । सत्यार्जवरतानां वै सर्वभूतदयावताम्‌,कुन्तीकुमार! जो सब प्रकारके द्वन्धोंसे रहित, सत्यवादी, सरल तथा सम्पूर्ण प्राणियोंपर दया करनेवाले हैं, उन महात्माओंको वही परमगति मिलती है

Transliteration

paramā sā gatiḥ pārtha nirdvandvānāṁ mahātmanām | satyārjavarātānāṁ vai sarvabhūtadayāvatām || kuntīkumarāya: ye sarvaprakāradvandvair rahitāḥ satyavādinaḥ saralāḥ ca samastaprāṇiṣu dayāśīlāḥ, teṣāṁ mahātmanāṁ sā eva paramā gatiḥ ||

Translation

Bhishma sprach: „O Pārtha, das ist das höchste Ziel für großgesinnte Menschen: frei von jedem inneren Zwiespalt, der Wahrheit und Geradheit verpflichtet und voll Mitgefühl für jedes lebende Wesen. O Sohn der Kuntī, nur solche Edlen erreichen jenen höchsten Zustand.“
