एतन्मयोक्तं नरदेव तत्त्व॑ नारायणो विश्वमिदं पुराणम्‌ स सर्गकाले च करोति सर्ग संहारकाले च तदत्ति भूय:,नरदेव! यह मैंने तुमसे सांख्यका तत्त्व बतलाया है। इस पुरातन विश्वके रूपमें साक्षात्‌ भगवान्‌ नारायण ही सर्वत्र विराजमान हैं। वे ही सृष्टिकि समय जगत्‌की सृष्टि और संहारकालमें उसको अपनेमें विलीन कर लेते हैं। इस प्रकार जगत्‌को अपने शरीरके भीतर ही स्थापित करके वे जगतके अन्तरात्मा भगवान्‌ नारायण एकार्णवके जलमें शयन करते हैं

etan mayoktaṃ naradeva tattvaṃ nārāyaṇo viśvam idaṃ purāṇam | sa sargakāle ca karoti sargaṃ saṃhārakāle ca tad atti bhūyaḥ ||

Bhishma sprach: O König, dies ist das wahre Prinzip, das ich dir dargelegt habe. Dieses uralte Universum ist in Wahrheit Nārāyaṇa selbst, der alles durchdringt. Zur Zeit der Schöpfung bringt Er den Kosmos hervor, und zur Zeit der Auflösung zieht Er ihn wieder in sich zurück. So, die Welt in seinem eigenen Sein bergend, ruht der Herr Nārāyaṇa – das innere Selbst aller – auf den Wassern des einen kosmischen Ozeans zwischen den Zyklen.

Educational Q&A

The verse teaches a theistic cosmology: the entire ancient universe is Nārāyaṇa Himself.
