यच्चापि किंचित्‌ कर्तव्यमन्यच्चोक्षै: सुसंस्कृतम्‌ । महासत्त्वै: शुद्धभावै: सर्व देवाहमेव तत्‌,वेदोंमें जो यज्ञ-सम्बन्धी वृक्ष बताये गये हैं, उन्हींका यज्ञोंमें उपयोग होना चाहिये। शुद्ध आचार-विचारवाले महान्‌ सत्त्वगगुणी पुरुष अपनी विशुद्ध भावनासे प्रोक्षण आदिके द्वारा उत्तम संस्कार करके जो कोई भी हविष्य या नैवेद्य तैयार करते हैं, वह सब देवताओंको अर्पण करनेके योग्य ही होता है

bhīṣma uvāca | yac cāpi kiñcit kartavyam anyac cokṣaiḥ susaṃskṛtam | mahāsattvaiḥ śuddhabhāvaiḥ sarva devāham eva tat ||

Bhīṣma sprach: Was immer auch bereitet werden soll und was immer durch Besprengung (und ähnliche Reinigungsriten) gut geweiht ist — wenn es von großherzigen Menschen mit reiner Absicht vollzogen wird, ist alles dergleichen geeignet, den Göttern dargebracht zu werden. Der ethische Kern lautet: Die eigentliche Heiligkeit der Opfergabe stammt nicht nur aus dem Stoff, sondern aus rechter Weihe und innerer Reinheit des Handelnden.
