Kapila–Cow Dialogue: Authority of Householder and Renunciant Dharmas
यदा न स चलत्येव स्थाणुभूतो महातपा: । ततस्तौ सुखविश्व॒स्तौ सुखं तत्रोषतुस्तदा
bhīṣma uvāca | yadā na sa calatyeva sthāṇubhūto mahātapāḥ | tatastau sukhaviśvastau sukhaṃ tatroṣatustadā ||
Bhishma sagte: Als jener große Asket völlig reglos blieb, als wäre er zu einem Baumstumpf geworden, da fassten die beiden Vögel volles Vertrauen, fühlten sich sicher und blieben dort, um an eben diesem Ort glücklich zu leben.
भीष्म उवाच
Steady self-restraint and non-threatening conduct (even expressed as complete stillness) can create safety and trust; dharma is shown not only by words but by a presence that removes fear from others.
A great ascetic remains perfectly motionless like a stump; seeing that he will not harm them, two birds become fully reassured and settle there, living comfortably in that place.
