Adhyāya 178 — The courses of prāṇa-vāyu and the regulation of the bodily fire
Desire-linked attachment generates rajas (agitated passion), which in turn breeds suffering, shameless conduct, and chronic dissatisfaction; therefore one should actively remove the rajas that follows from kāma and krodha to live steadily in dharma.
In the Shanti Parva’s instruction on righteous living after the war, Bhishma continues advising Yudhishthira on inner discipline, identifying desire and anger as root causes of moral and psychological downfall.
