Dama-pradhāna-dharma (Self-restraint as the Root of Dharma) — Śānti-parva 154

वरमस्मै प्रयच्छेयुस्ततो जीवेदयं शिशु: । यदि भगवान्‌ शिव, कुमार कार्तिकेय, ब्रह्माजी और भगवान्‌ विष्णु इसे वर दें तो यह बालक जी सकता है

varam asmai prayaccheyus tato jīved ayaṃ śiśuḥ | yadi bhagavān śivaḥ, kumāraḥ kārtikeyaḥ, brahmājī ca bhagavān viṣṇuś ca asmai varaṃ dadyuḥ, tadā ayaṃ bālakaḥ jīvet |

Jambuka sprach: „Würde ihm ein Segen (vara) gewährt, dann könnte dieses Kind leben. Ja, nur wenn der erhabene Herr Śiva, der jugendliche Gott Kārtikeya, Brahmā und Herr Viṣṇu ihm einen Segen verleihen, kann dieses Kind überleben.“
