Educational Q&A

Friendship is tested in adversity but fulfilled in reciprocity: one who received trust and life-saving help should not withdraw when the time comes to share companionship and its rightful joys.

Bhishma addresses a ‘friend,’ recalling past help given during a crisis—trust was established and life was preserved—and now questions the friend’s absence when circumstances are favorable for enjoying the benefits of that bond.
