अन्यत्र मरणाद्‌ दैन्यादन्यत्र परसंश्रयात्‌ | क्षुद्रादन्यत्र चाचारात्‌ तन्‍्ममाचक्ष्व सत्तम,साधुशिरोमणे! आत्मघात करने, दीनता दिखाने, दूसरोंकी शरणमें जाने तथा इसी तरहके और भी नीच कर्म करनेकी बात छोड़कर दूसरा कोई उपाय हो तो वह मुझे बताइये

anyatra maraṇād dainyād anyatra parasaṁśrayāt | kṣudrād anyatra cācārāt tan mamācakṣva sattama, sādhūśiromaṇe |

Bhīṣma sprach: „O Bester der Menschen, Kronjuwel der Tugendhaften – sage mir, ob es einen anderen Weg gibt: außer dem Tod, außer erbärmlicher Niedrigkeit, außer dem Zufluchtsuchen bei einem anderen und außer kleinlicher, niederer Lebensart. Wenn es ein edleres Heilmittel gibt, so verkünde es mir.“
