Educational Q&A

The verse highlights the epic’s ethical emphasis on remembrance and accountability: war is not abstract—named persons with distinct identities participate, and their deeds and deaths are recorded. Such catalogues reinforce the gravity of kṣatriya action and its consequences.

The narrator Vaiśampāyana is enumerating individuals present in the war context (a roster-style listing). The verse continues a sequence of names, identifying several figures, one described as ‘pratāpavān’ (valorous).
