शल्य–युधिष्ठिरयुद्धप्रारम्भः

Commencement of the Śalya–Yudhiṣṭhira Duel

माद्रीपुत्रो च संरब्धौ भीमसेनं च पाण्डवम्‌ | युधिष्ठटिरं च कौरव्य विव्याध दशभि: शरै:,कुरुनन्दन! इतना ही नहीं, उन्होंने क्रोधमें भरे हुए माद्रीकुमार नकुल-सहदेव, पाण्डुपुत्र भीमसेन तथा युधिष्ठिरको भी दस बाणोंसे क्षत-विक्षत कर दिया

mādrīputrau ca saṁrabdhau bhīmasenaṁ ca pāṇḍavam | yudhiṣṭhiraṁ ca kauravya vivyādha daśabhiḥ śaraiḥ kurunandana ||

Sañjaya sprach: O Spross der Kurus, auch die beiden Söhne Mādrīs, vom Zorn entflammt, trafen Bhīmasena, den Pāṇḍava, und Yudhiṣṭhira; o Freude der Kurus, sie durchbohrten sie mit zehn Pfeilen. Die Szene zeigt, wie Zorn im Kampf selbst edle Krieger zu gesteigerter Gewalt treibt, während der Konflikt über jede Zügelung hinaus anwächst.
