स च्छिन्नधन्वा विरथ: खड्गमादाय चर्म च
sa cchinnadhanvā virathaḥ khaḍgam ādāya carma ca
Sañjaya sprach: Als sein Bogen zerschlagen war und er ohne Wagen dastand, ergriff er Schwert und Schild. Im Gedränge der Schlacht, wenn die gewohnten Mittel vernichtet sind, wird der Entschluss des Kriegers geprüft: Er muss sich anpassen, ohne Mut und Pflicht preiszugeben, während die Szene die düstere Zuspitzung zum Nahkampf hervorhebt.
