The verse underscores the harsh reality of kṣatriya warfare: steadfastness under assault and the acceptance of danger as part of one’s chosen duty. Ethically, it highlights endurance and resolve amid violence, without celebrating cruelty—Sañjaya reports the facts of battle to convey the gravity of the conflict.
Sañjaya describes Arjuna on his chariot being struck repeatedly by a barrage of diverse weapons—arrows, spears, lances, clubs, and heavy darts—resulting in serious wounds during the ongoing battle.
